    Nutrition

    By steve | Family, Food, Uncategorized | 0 comment | 31 October, 2012 | 0

Lately, I’ve been hearing the word “nutrition” thrown around a lot.  You hear it on the playground, you hear it at the gym, and you even see it on the school lunch menu!! What do you think of when you read or hear the word “nutrition?”  I bet we’d get a different definition from each of you!.  Some people define the word as a diet; some as a specific product; some as a way of life; some cannot define it at all.   Because you are a co-op supporter, you probably have your own concept and definition of nutrition as being related to healthy, local, possibly organic and sustainable food sources.   Many avoid the topic altogether because it can be politically charged, confusing, or even overwhelming.

Nutrition is a strange science.  It’s one of the only fields where people can scientifically prove opposing theories and still be right.  We are only beginning to understand the relationship between what we eat and our health.  And, despite all of the cookbooks and diet books that have been published, most of us are increasingly confused about food.  Low fat vs. high fat, low carb vs. high protein, vegan vs. Primal, cooked vs raw food, gluten free or dairy free…..yikes!!!

I would love to share a definition of nutrition that I think we can all embrace and it may surprise you a bit:   eat what your body, mind and soul needs to thrive and work optimally.  That’s it.  What may work for me, may not work for you.

Understanding and honoring your own individual needs in the areas of relationships, career, exercise and spiritual practice will lead you to choose the right foods for you.  And, as you improve your health, you will likely become empowered to pursue the life of your dreams.  It’s one big circle….I look forward to exploring this concept of nutrition with you future posts!

Eat and be alive and may that aliveness create a ripple effect that changes you and the world!
